Omdat tal van Russische voorstellingen van theaters of evenementen geschrapt werden, vergelijkt hij ons nu met de nazi\u2019s die boeken verbrandden. Het Westen discrimineert bekende Russische schrijvers en is bezig aan een uitbanning van de Russische cultuur, argumenteert hij. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Daarmee gebruikt hij een bekende truk van manipulators om hun slachtoffer (in dit geval de Russische bevolking) op te zetten tegen iemand (in dit geval het Westen).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gaslighting als techniek<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Deze techniek wordt vaak ook gebruikt in persoonlijke relaties:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Om het zelfvertrouwen en het functioneren van een slachtoffer af te breken;<\/li><li>Om in een echtscheiding kinderen op te zetten tegen de andere ouder, zodat ze die ouder gaan verstoten;<\/li><li>Om de familie en vrienden van een partner in een slecht daglicht te stellen, zodat ze alle contact met hun naaste omgeving verbreken.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Robin Stern beschreef voor het eerst de patronen in dit mentale misbruik met de term \u2018gaslighting\u2019. Ze ontleende de term aan de film \u2018Gaslight\u2019 uit 1944 met Ingrid Bergman, Charles Boyer en Joseph Cotton als hoofdrolspelers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In deze film weet de romantische held, gespeeld door Boyer het slachtoffer, Bergman er gaandeweg van te overtuigen dat ze gek aan het worden is. Hij vraagt haar naar een broche die hij haar had gegeven en observeert haar verwarring als ze ze niet vindt terwijl ze er zeker van is dat ze ze in haar juwelenkistje had gelegd. Hij vertelt haar niet dat hij die er zelf heeft uitgehaald maar stelt dat ze de laatste tijd wel erg vergeetachtig is. Na een opeenstapeling van dit soort incidenten gaat ze uiteindelijk aan zichzelf twijfelen, wat de hele opzet was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hoe het werkt<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Gaslighting is dus bewust informatie verdraaien en de werkelijkheid fout voorstellen zonder dat het slachtoffer dat in de gaten heeft. In het Rusland van Poetin is dat niet meer zo moeilijk. Het recept is eenvoudig: zorg ervoor dat het slachtoffer (de Russische bevolking) geen weet heeft van de agressie die aan de gang is in Oekra\u00efne. De reactie op de agressie kan nu eenzijdig worden uitgelegd als discriminatie door een nazi-ge\u00efnspireerd Westen. Het Westen is dus de boosdoener. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Het verwisselen van oorzaak en gevolg is ook een truc die verstotende ouders vaak gebruiken om hun ex partner te raken. Ze lokken een boze reactie uit door bijvoorbeeld een afspraak te negeren en als de onder dan verontwaardigd of ge\u00efrriteerd reageert, wordt dat extra in de verf gezet als negatieve eigenschap. Na een tijdje wordt het erg moeilijk om de zaken nog recht te zetten. Want een goede gaslighter zal zich tegelijk als beschermer opwerpen en argumenteren dat het veiliger is om minder contact te onderhouden met zo\u2019n negatieve persoon. Als het contact dan uiteindelijk verbroken wordt, is er geen enkele mogelijkheid meer om een alternatieve waarheid te laten zien. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zo wordt je visie op de realiteit stilaan aangepast en verdraaid en wordt elke actie van de tegenpartij geframed als negatief. Een verstoten ouder kan nooit winnen: als hij\/zij \u00a0contact zoekt wordt het gezien als opdringerig en als hij het kind dan met rust laat, is het een onverschillige ouder. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Slachtoffers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Het slachtoffer in dit verhaal is niet enkel de verstoten ouder of het Westen dat onterecht beschuldigd werd, maar ook het gebrainwashte slachtoffer. Gaslighting is immers een vorm van mentale en psychische mishandeling die zo diep ingrijpt dat het kan leiden tot psychische klachten zoals depressie, identiteitsproblemen, angst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Het enige lichtpuntje is dat deze donkere periode in de wereldgeschiedenis het bewustzijn rond manipulatie misschien kan vergroten.
